Maxine E. Scarberry, 93, of Cottageville, passed away Dec. 20, 2012, in Camden Clark Medical Center, Parkersburg.
She was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Millwood, W.Va., daughter of the late Calvin Elmer and Goldie (Flesher) Roush. Her husband, Woodrow W. Scarberry, and brothers, Calvin Elmer, Jr., Grover, Charles, Donald, George, Fred "Boo", and Kenneth also preceded her in death.
She was a charter member of the Cottageville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, with 42 years service. She was a member of the Cottageville CEO's and attended Millwood United Methodist Church, where she participated in the Ladies' Aid Society. She was formerly employed as a clerk in the L. O. Hunt Store, Dan McDermott's store and John Kerwood's store, all in Cottageville and also performed janitorial duties at the Cottageville Lodge. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and crafting.
Survivors include her son, Larry Scarberry of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Dwight "Pete" Roush of Millwood; sisters, Betty Lathey of Cottageville and Linda Roseberry of Ravenswood; grandchildren, Sandra Pollard of Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., Rebecca Scarberry of Clemson, S.C., and James Scarberry of Jacksonville, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, W.Va., with the Rev. Gerald B. Sayre and Rev. Ted Osgood officiating. Burial will follow in Blaine Memorial Cemetery, Cottageville. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
