GIRLS BASKETBALL

Ritchie County 61,

Notre Dame 56

ELLENBORO - Molly Angotti canned seven 3-pointers, hit 13 of 15 from the foul line and scored a game-high 36 points, but Notre Dame still came up short in the Ritchie County Holiday Tournament as the host Rebels captured the title with a 61-56 triumph here Saturday.

Tristin Toman finished with 27 points, 10 boards and four assists for the Rebels, who improved to 4-2 and play host to Ravenswood on Tuesday.

Vanessa Tallman added 10 points and seven steals in the victory.

GLENVILLE - Ravenswood's defense held host Gilmer County to just 13 first-half points and the Red Devils used balanced scoring to post a 63-54 road win on Saturday afternoon.

Red Devil Taylor Youell tied Titan Morgan Allen, who hit a quartet of 3s, for game-high scoring honors with 16 apiece. RHS also received 15 counters from Melonna Carmichael, a dozen from Hannah Murray and nine more by Hailey Miller.

Michaela Gumm and Julie Bishop chipped in 11 markers apiece for the Titans (4-2).

Huntington St. Joe 62,

Parkersburg Catholic 29

HUNTINGTON - Parkersburg Catholic trailed just 21-17 after one, but four-time defending Class A state champion Huntington St. Joe pulled away for a 62-29 win Saturday evening.

Mychal Johnson, who was limited to five field goals, still tallied a game-high 20 points for the Irish.

Leah Hughes, who had 26 points in a victory earlier this week at Doddridge County, posted a team-high 11 for the Crusaderettes, who also got 10 points from Alex Schaffer. PCHS, now 4-1 with a home game Wednesday versus St. Marys, also received eight boards, five steals, four points and three assists from Maddie Roedersheimer.

St. Marys 66, Madonna 18

ST. MARYS - Host St. Marys, getting 26 points from Audra Clark and 16 from Abbi Fetty, rolled to a 66-18 win over Weirton Madonna Saturday night.

The Blue Devils, still unbeaten at 5-0, roared out to a 28-13 halftime lead and led 48-18 after three quarters as Madonna dropped to 1-4. Nicolette Sellitti had 12 points to pace Madonna.

St. Marys travels to face Parkersburg Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Cross Lanes Christian 36, Wood County Christian 27

CROSS LANES - Courtney Hendrix scored 18 points here Saturday night to lead the Cross Lanes Christian girls to a win over rival Wood County Christian, 36-27.

WCC, which plays host Tuesday to Ohio Valley Christian, went into the half with a 14-12 lead, but was unable to stop a 22-point burst from Cross Lanes in the second half. The Wildcats (2-4) were led in scoring by Katie Ward with seven points and Rachel Ruble grabbed a game-high 14 boards.

Weir 62, Magnolia 42

WEIRTON - Alyssa Shingle led all scores Saturday night with 22 points and Weir (1-4) recorded its first victory of the season by topping visiting Magnolia, 62-42.

Magnolia, which welcomes Oak Glen to town Monday, dropped to 2-3 and was paced by Mallory Chapman's 13 points and nine boards. Grace Berisford and Kiera Standiford combined for 20 points in the setback while Blue Eagle Katie Blatt had five assists and three blocks.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Wirt County 73

ELIZABETH - Tiger Dustin Garner tallied a game-high 24 points, but it wasn't nearly enough here Saturday as host Wirt County got outscored in every stanza by Ritchie County during a 93-73 setback.

The Rebels had big scoring efforts from Andrew Davis (23), D.J. Burgess (22), Justin Sage (17) and Jessie Hilvers (10).

Wirt County (1-3) also received 20 points from Kalob Bell and a dozen markers from Hunter McCoy. Garner finished one board shy of a double-double.

St. Marys 71, Madonna 55

WEIRTON - St. Marys (2-0) jumped out to a 35-23 halftime lead and never looked back, defeating the host Blue Dons here Saturday night, 71-55.

Andrew Cosper, one of four Blue Devils in double-digits, scored 21 points including 11 of 13 from the charity stripe. Cosper chipped in seven assists.

Jordan Whitehair added 11 points and grabbed a dozen caroms to post a double-double while Connor Lancaster and Austin Bayless netted 10 points apiece.

Marietta 58, Coshocton 40

MARIETTA - Host Marietta posted a 58-40 boys basketball win over Coshocton Saturday night as Corey Hill led the victorious Tigers with 16 points.

CROSS LANES - The Wildcats of Wood County Christian got a monster night from Jamie Arnold, who hit six 3s and scored 24 points, but it wasn't quite enough to snag a victory here Saturday as host Cross Lanes Christian posted a 56-44 victory.

Tyler Corbin hit four treys and had 23 points for CLC (3-3).

Patrick Goff added 13 points for the 1-4 Wildcats, who play Tuesday at Waterford.

CLENDENIN - Anthony Aviles had a game-high 19 points for visiting Gilmer County during its 62-42 road loss to Herbert Hoover on Saturday evening.

WRESTLING

South's Hill, Shively

runners-up at Canton

CANTON, Ohio - Parkersburg South, led by runner-up efforts from 113-pounder Lance Hill and 160-pounder Briar Shively, finished ninth place in the North Canton Tournament here Saturday with 105.5 points.

Steubenville won the tournament with 149.5 points while Huntington finished third with 145 and Ripley took sixth with 133.

Highlander Jordan Allen posted a 5-0 finals victory against Hill while Shively was upended 4-3 in his championship match by North Canton Hoover's Tyler Maloy. Patriot 138-pounder Tyler Richards placed sixth.

Belpre finishes

runner-up at Jackson

JACKSON, Ohio - The Belpre wrestling team had four champions on Saturday at the Jackson Invitational, but had to settle for a runner-up team finish after the Golden Eagles came up just short against Gallia Academy, 371-366.

Jordan McCutcheon (113), Manny Tullius (132), Robby Postlewaite (138) and Jamie Barrett (220) all went 5-0 en route to capturing individual weight class titles.

The Golden Eagles, who will join Logan at Nelsonville York at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, had runner-up finishes thanks to 106-pounder Gavin Stalnaker, 160-pounder Matthew Colvin and heavyweight Hayden Lowe. Belpre also placed 152-pounder Cody Martin (third), 182-pounder Tyler Martin (third), 145-pounder Ethan Wiggers (fourth) and 170-pounder D.J. Leftwich (sixth).

Larry Richie Memorial

KIDWELL - Toronto posted 188 points to win the Larry Richie Memorial Tournament here Saturday at Tyler Consolidated.

Magnolia, which took fifth with 120 points, had runner-up finishes from Doug Ritter (113), Gage Deem 9152) and Kage Rhode (182). Blue Eagle 'B' team grappler Clarence Harlan took runner-up honors at heavyweight.

Magnolia, which competes at home Wednesday versus Beallsville and Cameron, also got third place showings from 195-pounder Jared Wright and Tyler Baker at 220.
