Emery Ellis Boyles, 85, of St. Marys passed away Dec. 8, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 28, 1927, at Maximo, Ohio, son of the late Gilmore and Margaret Boyles.
He was a member of A Community of Christ Church, Parkersburg. He left school at the age of 17 to join his father in the military during World War II. Upon his return, he completed his education at Harrisville High School. He was a self-employed businessman in Ritchie and Pleasants counties for more than 55 years, including owner of Western Auto Associate Store in St. Marys.
He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Maxine; two sons, Kenneth (Annette) Boyles of Pt. Pleasant, W.Va., and Patrick (Peggy) Boyles of St. Marys; sisters, Nancy (Dave) Stephens of Parkersburg and Margaret Mahaney of Pennsboro; three grandsons, Keith Boyles of Morgantown, W.Va., Doug (Crystal) Boyles of Oak Hill, W.Va., and Bryon (Krystal) Oldfield of Shalimar, Fla.; granddaughter, Kristin Boley of St. Marys; Charlie Snider of Florida; and Lana Snider Evans of Ohio; great-grandchildren, Gavin Boyles, Kammryn Boley, Molly Boyles and Kendall Oldfield; and many other extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Oldfield; and grandson, Kevin Boyles.
Ellis loved flowers, but always said they were for the living to enjoy.
Memorials may be made to the Kevin Boyles Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of "Gramps" c/o Peoples Bank, 421 Main St., Pt. Pleasant, WV 25550.
The family would like to express their appreciation to House Calls Hospice staff for the loving care provided, with a special thank you to Annie Hurst.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at George Street Church of Christ in St. Marys. Friends and family will gather for a time of visiting following the service.
