Parkersburg News and Sentinel

Melvin R. "Roy" Watson, 81, of Elizabeth, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Dec. 8, 2012.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1931, in Wirt County, the son of the late Dock and Sylvia Mae (Shears) Watson.

He married the love of his life, Ocie Mae (Collins) Watson, and was married for 41 years before her passing on April 9, 1993. He retired from CSX Railroad in September 1993 after 41 years of service. He had a wonderful retirement. He loved following his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting and dance events over the years. He was an avid Wirt County Tiger Fan, and loved spending time on the family farm. His family and friends were the most important part of his life. He had a special place in his heart for his dear friends, Ken and Mae Thompson, and the Crew at Ellison Dozer Service. He particularly missed two wonderful friends, Paul Wine and Lloyd Edwards, that had passed on before him.

He is survived by his three children, Linda (Richard) Board of Palestine, W.Va., Rodney (Becky) Watson of Elizabeth, W.Va., and Gary (Shannon) Watson of Elizabeth, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Misty (Tim) Young of Palestine, W.Va., Eric (Cathie) Board of Newark, W.Va., Brian (Erica) Watson of Davisville, W.Va., Julia (Greg) Dawson of Washington, W.Va., Jarred (Joan) Watson of Mineral Wells, W.Va., and Shanel Watson of Elizabeth, W.Va.; six great-grandchildren, Luke and Cameron Young of Palestine, W.Va., Sophia Board of Newark, W.Va., Taylor Dawson of Washington, W.Va., and Emily and Trenton Hildbrand of Davisville, W.Va.; and two aunts, Gladys Watson and Imogene Watson of Parkersburg, W.Va.

Roy is preceded in death by both his parents; wife; four brothers, Mick, Jack, Ken and Ivan Watson; and sister, Donna Randolph.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth, W.Va., with the Rev. Mark McCloy and the Rev. John Watkins officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until time of service Monday. Interment will be at K of P Cemetery of Elizabeth, W.Va.
