MEN

No. 1 West Liberty 105, Glenville State 98

WEST LIBERTY - Kevin Gray's two foul shots with 1:45 left here Saturday brought visiting Glenville State to within 97-94, but the Pioneers didn't get any closer as No. 1 West Liberty held on for a 105-98 West Virginia Conference victory.

CJ Hester had a monster double-double, finishing with game-highs of 30 points and 14 rebounds to lead the nation's top-ranked team.

WLU (8-0, 4-0) also received 18 points from Bubby Goodwin along with 16 points and five steals from Alex Falk.

Glenville State's Jamel Morris chipped in 20 points, Joe Ballard had 19 points and five blocks while DJ Blanks contributed a dozen markers and six assists. GSC fell to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the WVIAC.

Ohio 78, Oakland 61

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - Walter Offutt scored 14 points and D.J. Cooper recorded his 18th career double-double as Ohio overpowered Oakland 78-61 Saturday, snapping a two-game losing streak.

Nick Kellogg added 12 points while Reggie Keely and D.J. Cooper chipped in 10 apiece. Cooper also pulled down five boards and dished out 13 assists for Ohio (7-2), which had 21 assists as a team.

Ohio held Oakland (3-7) to 38.5 percent (10 of 26) shooting and scored 16 points off 11 Golden Grizzlies' turnovers en route to a 39-29 halftime lead. The Bobcats shot 55.2 percent (16 of 29) in the second half and forced nine more turnovers to seal the win.

Oakland outrebounded Ohio 32-31 but the Bobcats outscored the Golden Grizzlies 40-20 in the paint.

Travis Bader, Oakland's leading scorer on the season, scored 29 points but the Golden Grizzlies' second-leading scorer Duke Mondy was held to 1-of-5 shooting.

Marietta College 64, Wilmington 57

WILMINGTON, Ohio - Marietta College held host Wilmington College to less than 35 percent shooting from the floor on Saturday and improved to 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference action by posting a 64-57 victory.

Tyler Hammond scored 15 points, J.J. Martin had a dozen and Jacob Owens contributed 14 markers off the bench for the Pioneers, who improved to 5-2 overall.

Wilmington (3-4, 1-1) received a game-high 17-point effort from Klarke Ransom.

Charleston 90,

Ohio Valley 70

CHARLESTON - Charleston rolled out to a 49-32 halftime lead and ran past Ohio Valley, 90-70, here Saturday evening in a West Virginia Conference affair.

OVU (1-6, 0-3) did get a game-high 25 points from Ashton Brown along with a double-double of 12 points and 10 caroms from Mustafa Helal. Fighting Scot Neil Gingerich turned in a solid line with eight points, 10 boards, four assists and three blocks.

Charleston (4-1, 1-1) received a 22-point effort from Terrell Lipkins as four Golden Eagles tallied double figures.

Marshall 69,

Coppin State 63

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - D.D. Scarver scored 20 points and Dennis Tinnon posted a double-double as Marshall took control in the final 3 minutes to defeat Coppin State 69-63 Saturday night in the first meeting between the schools.

The Thundering Herd (6-4), who fell behind by 12 in the first half, took their first lead briefly at 49-48 with 9:51 left.

Coppin State (1-8) regained a six-point lead before Marshall pulled ahead at 58-57 following two 3-pointers by Scarver and a three-point play by Tinnon with 2:45 left.

Tinnon added a layup and DeAndre Kane a free throw, but Collin Johnson's layup with 1:18 left cut it to 61-59. Tinnon made another layup and Marshall sealed it with 6-of-6 free-throw shooting.

Tinnon had 15 points and 15 rebounds, Elijah Pittman 14 points, Kane 11 assists and Nigel Spikes 11 rebounds.

Michael Murray's 18 points led the Eagles, who made 2 of 10 free throws.

WOMEN

West Liberty 101, Glenville State 93

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - Jasmin Kiley came off the bench and torched the nets for a game-high 32 points as host West Liberty dropped Glenville State, 101-93, here Saturday afternoon in West Virginia Conference action.

Former Williamstown all-stater Liz Flowers poured in 20 points, grabbed eight boards and added four assists for the Hilltoppers, who also received 10 points from ex-Tyler Consolidated star Meghan Wiseman.

Kenyona Simmons (23) and Ginny Mills (21) led the Pioneers (6-2, 3-1 WVIAC) in the scoring department as preseason No. 2 GSC only trailed preseason No. 3 WLU (6-2, 4-0), 49-47, at halftime.

Wilmington 66,

Marietta College 61

MARIETTA - Host Marietta College missed 12 of 25 from the foul line and ended up falling to Wilmington College, 66-61, here Saturday inside Ban Johnson Arena in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Wilmington (6-2, 2-0 OAC) led 40-34 at halftime and received a game-high 17 points from Brianna Peters.

Marietta College, which travels to Heidelberg next Saturday, got 14 points from Heather Booth and 10 markers from Paige Lamp. Pioneer Candice Alexander chipped in nine points and five steals.

Charleston 81,

Ohio Valley 71

CHARLESTON - Jasmine Gibson led all scorers with 19 points and Ohio Valley University teammate Kayla Parsley had the game's only double-double with 13 points and as many rebounds, but it wasn't quite enough Saturday as the Fighting Scots fell 81-71 at Charleston.

The Golden Eagles, now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the WVIAC, had a trio of double figure scorers, led by ex-Marietta Tiger LeAnne Ross. Ross hit five 3-pointers and tallied 17 points.
