PARKERSBURG - Children's musician Roger Day will be performing next week at Franklin Elementary Center.
Day will hold a concert and writing workshop Dec. 12 at 8:30 a.m. for the school's third- through fifth-grade students, and at 12:30 p.m. will hold a concert for pre-kindergarten through second-grade students.
Franklin music teacher Kelly Beckett said Day will talk with the older students about writing and the process he uses to write his songs.
Children’s musician Roger Day will be performing next week at Franklin Elementary Center.
"He'll be giving them clues about how the process goes, and it will be intermingled with his songs," she said. "In the afternoon he will perform his regular concert, the 'Shake Up Your Brain' concert."
Beckett said Day's performance was made possible through a state school improvement grant.
"We use grant money to bring in artists and authors to encourage students in areas of writing and reading," she said. Day "is just one of many we are bringing in this year."

Day's albums have won numerous awards from parent and family groups because of his mix of fun music and inspirational messages.
"A lot of (Day's) songs are educational. A lot involve counting and reading and storytelling," Beckett said. "I've been doing this job for 20 years, and he is one of the best children's artists I've ever encountered."
Beckett said the students already are familiar with Day's work.
"I've been using these songs for the past year-and-a-half," she said. "They are fun. They are educational. They bring a smile to their faces and bring out their dancing feet.
