UP: To Parkersburg's Mister Bee Potato Chip Co. for sending a five-pound bag of Mister Bee potato chips to U.S. Army Specialist Levi Crider. Crider, a Belpre native, is serving with the Army's 101st Airborne Division in Afghanistan. Crider sent a fan email to Mister Bee from Afghanistan telling company officials how much he missed their chips. According to Mister Bee spokesman Karla Reeves, military requests are "very dear to us." Crider, who will be in Afghanistan through next year, received his package for Thanksgiving. Congratulations to Mister Bee for giving this Mid-Ohio Valley resident a piece of home while he is serving our country.
UP: To the Parkersburg Chapter of the American Red Cross volunteers in the Blood Services program who were honored at a luncheon this past Tuesday at the Golden Corral in Parkersburg. The volunteers make donors feel welcome by serving as greeters, registering donors when they show up to give blood and providing them with information and materials. Congratulations to these special people for giving their time to help others.
UP: To Kristi Day, a parts specialist with O'Reilly's Auto Parts on Division Street in south Parkersburg, for helping a visitor to the city who needed a part on Thanksgiving. Lindsay Jessee, of Mansfield, Ohio, was visiting her father for the holiday when she experienced car trouble when she was ready to leave for home. By the time the problem - a broken tie rod - was diagnosed - it was evening, and Jesse had to be back in Mansfield with her three children to pick up her niece. Day was just minutes from closing when she took Jessee's call. Day bought the part herself, and waited for Jessee in the parking lot. Jessee retrieved the part and was able to get her car fixed and continue her trip home. Congratulations to Kristi Day for being willing to go the extra mile on a holiday to help someone in need.
UP: To Cutler resident Ruby Hall for logging 17,000 volunteer hours for RSVP of Washington County. Hall, 87, has spent much of her life donating her time to various organizations and causes, including more than 250 quilts to groups in the county during the past 10 years.
