CHARLESTON - Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., today announced she will run for the U.S. Senate.
Capito, who was elected to the 2nd District in 2000, said she is marking her 59th birthday by vowing to run for Senate in 2014.
Capito made the announcement in the state Capitol.
The seat is held by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a five-term Democrat who said Capito called him last week about her plans.
Rockefeller, 75, has not said whether he will run for re-election.
Capito was elected to a seventh term on Nov. 6.
