Ruth Self, 84, of Elizabeth, W.Va., passed away Nov. 24, 2012, at Ohio Valley Health Care of Parkersburg, W.Va.
She was born July 30, 1928, in Thacker, W.Va., the daughter of the Late Ezra and Florence (Mann) Queen.
She was a Baptist by faith, and was baptized early in life at Dusk Camp Baptist Church in Gilmer County, W.Va. Ruthie was a survivor in all aspects of her life, from raising her children, to her courageous battle that she won with ovarian and colon cancer. She lived her life as an inspiration to those who knew her, she never gave up and always had a smile on her face. She worked hard all her life as a business owner in the Wirt County area, and several of those businesses that she started are still in operation today.
She is survived by her seven children, William (Pat) Self of Glenville, W.Va., Patricia (Jim) Deem of Mineral Wells, Phyllis Bowe of Akron Ohio, Frank (Sharon) Self of Elizabeth, W.Va., Mary (Don) Pfalzcraft of Elizabeth, W.Va., Dave (Ann) Self of Arnoldsburg, W.Va., and Connie (Jerry) Patterson of Elizabeth, W.Va.; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both her parents; husband, William O. Self; three bothers; four sisters; three grandchildren, Cindy Self, Harry Jr. and Chris; and good friends, Deloris Patterson and Mick Watson.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth, W.Va., with the Rev. Delmas Stutler officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today. Interment will be at Friend Cemetery in Ivydale, W.Va.
