ONA -Parkersburg South's boys swimming team captured its third straight Cabell Midland Invitational championship here Saturday, dominating the event by amassing 291 points compared to 224 for runner-up Charleston Catholic and 212 for defending Class AAA state champion George Washington.
The Patriots of coach Steve Lutz won with their depth. South didn't have a single individual or relay team win an event, but it overwhelmed the competition with numerous placers.
Freshman Garrett Fink had South's top individual performance, finishing as the runner-up in the 100 butterfly. The Patriots also placed second in the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Garrett DePergola, Kinzie Bailey, Joe Miller and Corey Johnson.
Fink was third in the 200 freestyle while Kinzie Bailey had a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.
South also got a third place in the 200 medley relay with the team of Lane Burton, DePergola, Garrett Fink and Casey Dye.
Taking fourths for the Patriots were DePergola in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, Johnson in the 100 freestyle, Miller in the 500 freestyle, Burton in the 100 backstroke and the 400 freestyle relay team of Fink, Bailey, Miller and Johnson.

South's girls placed fifth with 106 points. George Washington dominated the girls competition, amassing 380 points to 119 for runnerup Woodrow Wilson.
Top performances for the Patriots were third place finishes by Emily Gersper in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay team composed of Rachel Kirk, Gersper, Natalie Fish and Anna Pasternak.
The 200 freestyle team of Pasternak, Emily Lowden, Fish and Gersper took fourth place.
South will conduct the Frank Burton Memorial Parkersburg South Invitational next Saturday at the Parkersburg Boys and Girls Club.
