Mary M. Yates Hackett, 91, formerly of Belpre, died on Nov. 20, 2012, at the Wyngate Senior Living Center in Weirton, W.Va.
She was born Dec. 24, 1920 at Kanawha Station, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Samuel Franklin and Lavena Leona Pritchard Emrick. She was secretary for the Peters Township School District, McMurray, Pa., for 25 years. She had been an active member of the First Baptist Church in Parkersburg prior to her illness. She and her husband, Clarence, sent out the weekly newsletters for the church. They enjoyed attending meetings and activities of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. They enjoyed attending meetings and activities of retired railroaders, and traveling to reunions of his military unit. They also enjoyed attending activities of the University of Hard Knocks on the campus of Alderson-Broaddus College, having been a member of the class of 1993. She was a past member of the Belpre Order of Eastern Star #541.
Survivors include her two daughters, Ruth Yates Cummings and husband Donald of Paris, Pa., and Twila Yates Papay and husband Joseph of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; one grandson, D.B. Cummings and wife Amy of Florissant, Mo.; two great-grandsons, Donald Alexander Cummings and Matthew Morgan Cummings of Florissant, Mo.; and one brother, Lewis W. Emrick and wife Starr of Parkersburg and Naples, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ralph Yates in 1988; and her second husband, Clarence S. Hackett in 2009.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Belpre. Friends may call at the funeral home 2-4 p.m. Sunday.
