Ann Whitney Jamieson Welch Scott, 75, of Williamstown, died peacefully in her sleep on her birthday, Nov. 15, 2012, at home surrounded by family.
She was born in Owensboro, Ky., and spent most of her school years in Hinsdale, Ill., eventually settling in the Parkersburg area. An artist, Ann was a creative painter, a prolific knitter and a successful seamstress. For many years, she operated her own custom drapery business, doing contract work for area interior design businesses. She studied history at Ohio Valley University and Fairmont State College, and was a keen history buff. She was an avid reader, and leaves behind an extensive collection of books. Above all, she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, dearly loved by her family.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James Gale Scott of Williamstown; daughters, Mary Kay Welch of Williamstown, Sally Welch of Athens, Ohio, and Lee Samson of Williamstown; granddaughters, Jamieson Jarvis, Hannah Rea, Brenna Samson, Kathryn Rea, Gwendolyn Samson and Svetalee (Sasha) Samson; sister, Kathryn Sauber of Illinois; brothers, Harold Smith of Tennessee and Jim Smith of Jane Lew, W.Va.; four nephews; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert Jamieson and Thelma Hessler; and a brother, Mark Hessler.
Visitation at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Leavitt Funeral Home. Burial will be at Wadesville Cemetery.
