PARKERSBURG - The Wood County Board of Education will meet at 6:30 p.m. today to discuss whether updates are needed for Wood County Schools nepotism policy.
Officials will look at how Policy 4109 is applied to coaching positions and whether language in the policy needs updated to more clearly govern those jobs, Sue Woodward, assistant superintendent of school services, said.
"Most of the discussion is stemming from coaching positions," she said. "It's not to keep anybody in or out, it is the policy doesn't support what we've been doing."
The board also will receive information on the district's supplementary retirement fund. Employees pay about $5 each pay into the fund, which is used to supplement the state retirement payments, Woodward said.
But in recent years the amount of money coming into the fund and interest on the fund have begun to drop below outgoing payments.
"We have a committee that oversees the fund, and they felt it was time something needed to be done, either with more paid into the fund or something different with the payouts," Woodward said.
In other business, the school board is expected to discuss its annual retreat, which is scheduled for Dec. 13. Woodward said officials will provide direction to central office personnel on what information should be presented in their annual department head reports.
"It is similar to what they did prior to the LSIC (Local School Improvement Council) reports," she said.
The board meets at the 13th and Plum streets administrative offices in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public.
