David Smearman, 79, of Parkersburg, passed away Nov. 12, 2012, at Camden Clark Medical Center.
He was born March 1, 1933 in Doddridge County, a son of the late George W. Smearman and Laura Esther Cunningham Gatts. He was retired from the Wood County Board of Education as a bus driver, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and member of the Weslyan Faith. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Elks Lodge and the Eagles Lodge, all of Parkersburg, and the Amvets of Logan, Ohio and Parkersburg.
Surviving are three sons, Jeff (Mary) Smearman of Parkersburg, David James Smearman of Worthington, Ohio and Jerry (Annie) Smearman of Logan, Ohio; two daughters, Jan Smearman of New Cumberland, W.Va. and Jodie Guerrette of Logan, Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis (Madona) Smearman and Danny (Sherlene) Smearman, both of Weirton; and two sisters, Becky Cogar of Weirton and Racheal (Les) McCauley of Lakewood, Calif. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia J. Elsey Smearman; two daughters, Debby Smearman and Janie Miller and son, John Smearman; and six brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th St., Parkersburg. Burial will follow at the Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
