William "Bill" Paul Dotson, 77, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Nov. 11, 2012, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 25, 1934, in Wirt County, the son of the Late Omer And Leafie (Corbit) Dotson.
He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and retired from Carpenters Local 899 of Parkersburg, W.Va. He was owner of Dotsons Exxon of Elizabeth, W.Va., from 1976-1981. He enjoyed racing Winged Opened Wheeled Super Modified Sprint Cars, drove the Old 881 for Lew Quinn and was a member of Burning Springs Masonic Lodge 182. His passion in life was working with wood. Over the years, he donated several of his items to various organizations in the Wirt County area.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Linda (Reed) Dotson; one son, William "Billy" Dotson of Elizabeth, W.Va.; two daughters, Tammy (Carl) Brandjes of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Barb Walker of Munday, W.Va.; three grandchildren, William "Allen" Dotson and wife, Ashley, of Washington, W.Va., William Brick IV and wife, April, of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Ryan Mathew Dotson and wife, Elizabeth, of Elizabeth, W.Va.; two stepdaughters, Carmen James and husband, Jeff, of Zanesville, Ohio, and Rita Ernst and husband, Dave, of Louisville, Ky.; four step-granddaughters, Devan Shaley, Kayli Sowards of Zanesville, Ohio, and Natalie and Sarah Ernst of Louisville, Ky.; one step-grandson, Brandon Soward of Zanesville, Ohio; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; his first wife, Bertha Green Dotson in January 1989; one sister, Corda Faye Booth; and one son-in-law, Danny Walker.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth, W.Va., with the Rev. Danny McVey officiating. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be at K of P Cemetery of Elizabeth, W.Va.
