BUCKHANNON -Several Mid-Ohio players were accorded honors by the West Virginia High School Soccer Coaches Association, which recently released its all-state and major award winner selections.
In Class AA-A, both winners of the Goalkeeper of the Year Award hailed from the Little Kanawha Conference as Williamstown senior Garret Butler was named the top male at that position and Sophie Kinnard of Tyler Consolidated the top female.
Although they were the only area players who received top individual honors, a number of area players were named to the all-state squads.
Parkersburg High was represented on the Class AAA boys first team by a pair of senior defenders, Tyler Broadwater and Zac Wilcoxen. The Big Reds, who finished as the state runners-up, also had a pair of second team selections in senior midfielder Garrett Kruger and junior forward Nick Payne.
PHS senior midfielder Allie Roberts was the only area girl selected to the Class AAA first team. Named to the second team were PHS senior defender Alexa Standley and Parkersburg South senior defender Allyson Brezler.
Kinnard was the only Mid-Ohio Valley girl named to the Class AA-A girls first team. A pair of Ravenswood seniors were awarded second team honors, goalkeeper Anna Flesher and defender Jordan Danko.
Three area boys were named to the Class AA-A first team, including Butler.
He was joined on the honor squad by Ravenswood senior forward Mason Carte and Tyler Consolidated junior forward Dylan Romine.
