PARKERSBURG - Host Parkersburg High School powered its way through the Class AAA, Region I, volleyball tournament here Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Fieldhouse and swept Parkersburg South in the finals by scores of 25-14, 25-8 and 25-14.
In the semifinals, PHS eliminated University in straight sets - 25-13, 25-17 and 25-22 - while Parkersburg South advanced to the state tournament set to begin Friday in Charleston by ousting Morgantown in straight sets as well - 25-19, 25-17 and 25-19.
Parkersburg's defense completely shutdown the Patriots in the finals and allowed head coach Becky Bennett's squad just four service points in the last two sets.

Parkersburg South, which will carry a 20-16 record into the state tournament and will be pitted against either Musselman, Spring Valley or George Washington, held a 9-6 lead in the opening set before the Big Reds of head man Carl Harnish took control by scoring 12 of the next 14 points.
Jordan Lallemont served up an ace to close out the first set for the Big Reds, whose quarterfinal opponent at state will come from the trio of Hedgesville, Greenbrier East or Cabell Midland.
The Patriots had an early 3-2 lead in set two when Kayleigh Rexroad registered a downed spike via a Kasey Williams assist. However, after tying the match at five on a Lexi Spencer kill, PSHS fans watched as Big Red Imani Ward took over at the net and helped the hosts score seven straight points to take control. Morgan Armstrong's ace on set point gave PHS a 2-0 cushion in the best-of-five match.

PHS (42-13-1) never trailed in set three thanks to early aces by Megan Morrison and Armstrong along with solid play at the net by Paige Warner. The Patriots tried to keep it close and were only down by three at 11-8 when Sara McPeek got a kill and still trailed just 12-9 when Spencer got a kill from a Taylor Ratliff assist, but PSHS never got any closer.
Warner, who finished with 15 kills versus Parkersburg South, had four downed spikes after it was 12-9 and Ward's 18th and final kill via a Rachel Slone assist sealed match point.
Lallemont led all scorers with 13 points while Armstrong, Morrison and Kaitlin Farrah had eight points apiece. Lyxis Reeder chipped in seven points and joined Lallemeont with 18 assists.
Parkersburg South received a combined 15 kills from Spencer, Rexroad and Katy Amos in the finals setback. Spencer had 10 digs and Alexis Leach had seven.
Warner (16) and Ward (12) paced the PHS kill attack against University, which watched Morrison serve up a quartet of aces. Spencer, Sara McPeek and Rexroad combined for two dozen downed spikes versus Morgantown while Patriot Logan Somerville chipped in 18 digs.

Ritchie County makes Class AA state field
The Rebels of first-year head coach Melanie Allender still qualified for the state tournament by defeating Weir 25-14, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-18 in the semifinals.
Kenna DeLancey (15) and Cassidy Ray (12) powered the Rebels (24-13) in the kill department against the Red Riders. Amanda Davis and Vanessa Tallman combined for 23 service points and four aces while Olivia Haught had 39 assists. Rebel Veronica Mueller had 25 digs.
Versus the Golden Bears, Haught had 28 assists as Ray and DeLancey contributed nine downed spikes apiece. Leah Kuhn paced the Rebels with seven blocks.
Four Class A teams advance
Head coach Rachelle Pallini's squad defeated Parkersburg Catholic to win the Region IV championship - 25-12, 25-17 and 25-16. Brooke Cieslewski had match-highs in the finals off 11 points and 33 digs for the 'Jackets, who got a balanced hitting attack versus PCHS (27-21-1). Lincoln Postlewaite had a finals match-high 10 kills. Kenzie Smith had nine kills, Ashton Chancellor had seven while Ciara Flowers and Carley Ellison had eight downed spikes apiece.
In the finals setback, PCHS was paced by Amy Tennant's nine points and seven assists while Maddie Roedersheimer had six kills and five blocks. The Crusaderettes punched their ticket by beating host Charleston Catholic 22-25, 25-14, 25-23 and 25-23. Roedersheimer had 16 kills in the semifinals to go along with 17 points and four aces. Leah Hughes and Hannah Fisher combined for 18 kills. Hughes also had 10 points and four aces. Hannah Reifsteck tallied 21 assists and PCHS teammate Reily Sturm added eight points and four aces.
Williamstown (36-8-1) swept its semifinal and ousted Buffalo 25-12, 25-20 and 25-19. Cieslewski had three aces as part of her match-high 19 service tallies. Chancellor (13) and Smith (10) led the 'Jackets in downed spikes.
The Little Kanawha Conference champion Silver Knights (43-4) got a match-high 23 kills from Allison Wable in the finals, but Magnolia's Mallory Chapman tallied 20 downed spikes. Megan Carpenter had five aces, 23 points and nine kills while Torrye Cline had 36 assists and two aces for TCHS. Wable also had 12 blocks and Bridget Matthews contributed seven kills.
For the Blue Eagles in the finals, Chapman also had three aces, 30 digs and nine blocks to go with 19 points. Lauren Cline had 34 assists, Katie Blatt had eight kills and Emily Clegg added four aces and five downed spikes versus the hosts.
Tyler Consolidated got double figure kill efforts in a 25-15, 25-6 and 25-17 victory versus Madonna in the semifinals from Wable (18), Carpenter (10) and Matthews (10). Cline and Shay Yonaley combined for 23 digs.
The Blue Eagles (20-12-1) ended Paden City's season following a 25-15, 25-13 and 25-19 triumph in the other semifinal. Chapman had 17 kills and Hilary Feldmeier served up 10 aces to lead the way.
Paden City ended its season with a 29-13 record. Lynnsie Parsons had 10 kills and six points for the Wildcats, who also got 11 points, 20 assists and four digs from Logan Cosper. Wildcat Myah Charkawi chipped in 10 points and 14 digs.
