LITTLE HOCKING - The Little Hocking United Methodist Church will be having its 9th annual giveaway from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 9 and from 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 10.
The giveaway will be only held one weekend this year but will be held for extended hours to meet the needs of different schedules.
Coats from newborn to men's 4x have been sorted, cleaned, and hung on racks to prepare for the giveaway. Coats come in all colors and styles. There are many coats to meet the differing preferences of the people who attend. There is everything from popular cartoon characters to denim to ski to dressy long to camo coats. Currently there are over 500 coats as well as jackets, clothing, snow pants, shoes/boots, and winter accessories such as gloves, mittens, scarves, and hats.
Anyone who comes for a coat can have a coat. No on is questioned and proof of need is not asked for. The church wants people who need a coat for themselves or a family member to come and take what they need. The church often has neighbors, friends, family members or teachers come for a coat for a person in need.
Although the giveaway is held at the Little Hocking United Methodist Church, it is a success because of the community. Collection barrels were placed at eight different locations in the area. Community members and churches helped collect items that will be given away.
