PARKERSBURG - A candidate for mayor of Vienna died this morning from a heart attack, officials said.
Jack Roush, 51, was pronounced dead at Camden Clark Medical Center.
Roush, an Applebee's restaurant manager in Marietta, was a candidate for mayor of Vienna. He was running against Randy Rapp.
Election officials were meeting this morning to determine the impact on the election. Early voting started on Oct. 24 and election day is Tuesday.
Because of the death, a filing period will be open until 4 p.m. Friday for write in candidates for mayor, according to Wood County Prosecutor Jason Wharton.
Any eligible individual who seeks to be elected by write in vote to the office of Mayor of the City of Vienna shall file a write in candidate certificate of announcement with the city of Vienna before the close of business at 4 p.m. on Friday pursuant to West Virginia Code 3-6-4a.
This procedure was determined in consultation with the secretary of state, the prosecutor, the city of Vienna and the Wood County Clerk.
