Helen G. Hersman, 87, of Parkersburg, departed this life on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Eagle Pointe Nursing Home in Parkersburg.
Helen was born Sept. 25, 1925 in Clay County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Howard and Sarah Jane (Hoff) Hersman. She was employed by the former Spencer manufacturing and sweater factory of Spencer, W.Va., and the former Yonkers Sewing Factory of Parkersburg where she served as a seamstress. She enjoyed many hobbies including her weekend auctions and was an excellent quilter and knitter.
She is survived by her loving son, Donald Hersman (Sue) of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Jonathan Hersman of Virginia and Yettie McPherson of Kentucky; great grandchildren, Stacy, Emily and Baily Nesselrotte, Christin Foy (James); great great grandchildren, Aiden Leonardo and Serenety Foy; brother, James Hersman, Jamestown, Pa.; sister in law, Elfrieda Hersman, Clarksburg, W.Va.; special niece, Janie Gore of Texas, who was raised in the family home by Helen, along with several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Hersman; sisters, Dorothy Tritt and Earlene Harget, and sister in law, Dorothy Hersman.
A memorial service in memory of Helen will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. A social gathering of friends will be after the service at the funeral home.
