David H. DeLong, 89, of St. Marys, husband of Helen Hamilton DeLong for 59 years, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Born in Sistersville on Feb. 24, 1923, he was a son of the late Harry and Mary Broughman DeLong. He was a 1941 graduate of Sistersville High School, and a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and the Korean War. David retired in 1983 from the C & P Telephone Company. He was a member of the American Legion and the First Baptist Church of St. Marys. In his life, he was an ordained deacon, and taught Sunday school in three different churches.
Survivors other than his wife include two sons, David A. (Jenny) DeLong of Buckhannon, W.Va. and Robert L. DeLong of Parkersburg; two grandchildren, Bryan DeLong of Moon Township, Pa. and Leah Morehead of Buckhannon; six great-grandchildren, Mackenzie DeLong, Sebastian Reynolds, Colby Misketch, Jordan Korotky and Anya and Amelia Morehead; one sister, Ruth Jackson of Vienna; and three sisters-in-law, Lucille Beal of Parkersburg, Betty DeLong and Delyte DeLong of Newton Falls, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Paul, William and Harry.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church, St. Marys, with Pastor John Strimer officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasants Memorial Estates. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
