Ruth Almeda (Bennington) Yoak, 90, of Ripley, formerly of Spencer, passed into the presence of Jesus on Oct. 26, 2012, with her family by her side.
She was born Jan. 2, 1922, at Arnoldsburg, W.Va., to Fred and Mary (Wilson) Bennington.
Ruth spent her early years in Calhoun County, graduating from Calhoun County High School in 1939. She married Victor Yoak on April 20, 1946, in Barberton, Ohio. Having spent 30 years in Roane County, she was involved in activities at the Spencer Temple, the Trail Blazer's 4-H Club and the Home Demonstration Club. She was a wonderful mother, homemaker, cook and gardener. Ruth worked as the Society Editor for Spencer Newspapers for several years after Sandra and David left home. After moving to Ripley in 1977, she was an active member of Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Victor; and a daughter and a son, Sandra Lea (the Rev. Peter S.) Mathewson of Granville, Ohio, and David Victor (Connie Coen) Yoak of Newburgh, Ind. Ruth has four loving granddaughters, Heather (Jeff) Tron of Newburgh, Ind., Amy (Jim) Kearns of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lori (Dennis) Struyk of Lebanon, Ohio, and Stacy (Mark) Zimmerman of Pataskala, Ohio. She will be deeply missed by eight great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Victor Kearns, Elijah James Kearns, Hope Elizabeth Kearns, Cassidy Grace Tron, Mackenzie Faith Tron, Anna Elizabeth Zimmerman, Lauren Zoe Zimmerman and Katelynn Benning Struyk.
Ruth was preceded in death by two infant children, Carolyn and Mark; a brother, Wilson Bennington; and three sisters, Emogene Bennington, Oreta (Orlie) Anderson and Oleta "Sally" (Owen) Bourne.
A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church, 330 Third Ave., Ripley, with the Rev. Peter S. Mathewson, the Rev. Jeff Keffer and the Rev. Mike Elder officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Waybright Funeral Home, 511 South Church St., Ripley, and at the church one hour before the service. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Albert's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sand Ridge, W.Va.
