Glenville State 14, Charleston 10

GLENVILLE - Demetrius Quarles' third interception of the game late in the fourth quarter sealed Glenville State's 14-10 upset of visiting No. 25 Charleston here Saturday afternoon during homecoming at Morris Stadium.

The Pioneers, now 5-4 overall and 5-1 in West Virginia Conference action, scored both of their touchdowns in the second quarter.

Glenville State's defense made a huge stop on the Golden Eagles' first series when Devin Cain and James Washington stuffed All-American Jordan Roberts for no gain on a fourth-and-1 play from the Pioneer 4.

On the Pioneers' third possession, quarterback Justin Feagin engineered a 75-yard scoring drive that included a key third down completion to Orlandus Harris. Feagin eventually scored on a 7-yard run and Colston Bayless' extra point made it 7-0 G-men just 46 ticks into the second quarter.

Charleston (7-2, 4-2) marched right down the field on its next series, but Quarles picked off John Knox for the second time in the first half by snaring the interception in the end zone. Although the Golden Eagles scored on their next drive via a Roberts 19-yard TD scamper to even the contest with 2:55 left before intermission, the G-men answered.

Leading 14-7 at halftime, the Pioneer defense made it stand as Charleston's only other points came on a Puma Nuredini 29-yard field at 12:04 of the fourth quarter. That score was set up by Golden Eagle Matt Kelly's interception of Feagin, who rushed for 84 yards and hit 7 of 11 passes for 66 yards.

Charleston, led by Roberts' game-highs of 23 carries and 142 rushing yards, had one last chance after taking possession at its own 20 with 2:11 remaining. After crossing midfield, though, Knox was intercepted by Quarles and the Pioneers ran out the clock, setting up a huge game at noon next Saturday on the road versus preseason WVIAC favorite Shepherd.
