Darrell Eugene Smith Sr., 69, of Parkersburg, passed away Oct. 18, 2012, at the Willows Center.
He was born May 12, 1943, in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late Lawrence O. and Freda I. Smith.
He was a 1962 graduate of PHS and attended Washington County Career Center. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked at Union Carbide/Elkem Metals as a foreman. He had attended South Parkersburg UMC and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy Smith; a son, Darrell E. "Butch" Smith II (Lorie) of Mineral Wells; a daughter, Tammy Lynn Moyers (Tim) of Parkersburg; a stepson, Robert E. Christopher (Debbie) of Louisville, Ky.; eight grandchildren, U.S. Army Warrant Officer Jeremiah Moyers, U.S. Navy Jeffrey Christopher, Elisha Christopher, Megan Modesitt, Robert Wayne Christopher, Nathaniel Moyers, Ashley Vincent and Brandon Smith; and eight great-grandchildren, Alyiah Flinn, Harmony Smith, Calista Christopher, Brock Modesitt, Ryleigh Bills, Mack Modesitt, Katherine Moyers and Gaberiel Vincent.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Smith Jr.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Larry Dale officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
