Obama isn’t against coal

October 21, 2012
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

On my weekly trip to Lower Salem, I become upset by the signs about coal and the lies that President Obama is against coal. He is for clean coal, if there is such a thing. The coal burning power plants were to have installed scrubbers many years ago to reduce pollutants. Instead many of them continued to pay the fines and send dirty air into our world. Representatives Bill Johnson and David McKinley voted to get rid of regulations on coal.

After listening to the debate I was disturbed that Obama did not confront Romney on the many lies he told. But I know the president has better self control than I do. He had the sense not to engage with someone who was rude to the president, Jim Lehrer, and Big Bird and someone who can't get facts straight.

Romney said he would get rid of the subsidies for clean energy and keep the ones for the coal and oil. I think I saw where he thought a coal plant in Massachusetts made people sick. Don't they do the same thing now? A lot of money is being poured into Ohio to defeat Obama by the Koch brothers and others including a Mr. Murray who owns several coal mines in Ohio and other states.

I guess the big money speaks and the little guy is screwed again. Unless people wake up and elect people who are concerned about all the people, we will be fighting each other like in the book, "Hunger Games."
