WEST UNION - For the first time since 2007, the Silver Knights of Tyler Consolidated are the Little Kanawha Conference volleyball champions.
Head coach Richard Summers' team played for nearly two hours, but in the end managed to dethrone defending LKC champ Wirt County as Tyler Consolidated held on for a 25-19, 16-25, 25-20, 23-25 and 15-12 triumph.
"It was pretty exciting. It felt good," said Silver Knight senior Allison Wable, who finished with 18 kills, nine points and two aces in the finals.

Tyler Consolidated’s volleyball team captured the Little Kanawha Conference championship for the first time since 2007 on Saturday night at Doddridge County when the Silver Knights knocked off defending LKC champion Wirt County in five sets.
Tyler Consolidated swept Gilmer County - 25-18, 25-20 and 25-11 - in the semifinals while the Tigers had a near two hour battle against Williamstown in a rematch of last year's Class A state championship showdown. However, the Tigers managed to pull out a 25-15, 26-24, 18-25, 17-25 and 15-13 victory to reach the championship.
After the two programs battled to a pair of wins apiece in splitting the first four championship sets, the Silver Knights looked as though they would breeze to victory after jumping out to a 7-1 cushion in the fifth set.
Sydney Reed served for five straight points in the fifth set and her ace gave the Silver Knights the six point advantage. Methodically, the Tigers battled back and continued to chip away thanks to strong play at the net from Taylor Watson, who had a match-high 27 kills, and Brandy Bunch, who finished with 20 downed spikes.

Later, with Tiger Sydney Summers at the service line, she notched six straight points and the decisive fifth set was squared at nine when Miriam Smith registered a downed spike.
Megan Carpenter, via one of Torrye Cline's 36 assists, broke the tie with a kill and Kerstyn Cline followed with an ace as the Silver Knights (37-2) took the lead for good.
"I thought it was a great match between two very good teams and I think two very good programs," said Summers, who watched Carpenter produce 13 kills and 10 blocks while Shay Yonaley added 10 points, two aces and 21 digs.
"I just think it was a dead even match and we had some lucky balls that happened to fall in and they always say to win something you got to be lucky and we had some lucky hits that just went to places you can't normally put it."
Torrye Cline added 17 points, three aces and 16 digs in the finals as the Silver Knight defense made the difference in the end. TCHS also got a dozen digs from Kerstyn Cline and nine more from Carly Fletcher.
"I think it helped us because we saved most of our energy," Wable added of getting to rest for more than an extra hour after sweeping the Titans in the semifinals. "This is good for us and our season, but we have to concentrate on sectionals."
Wirt County (27-11-3) setter Emily Ohrn registered 50 assists, six points and four kills in the championship setback. Leah Haines (14), Summers (11) and Makayla Bell (10) paced the orange and black in service points.
Williamstown, now 29-8-1, knocked off Gilmer County by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-21 in the consolation match. Jessie Kerns had six aces and 18 assists while Kenzie Smith had three aces and 14 assists. The 'Jackets were led in kills versus the Titans by Lincoln Postlewaite (eight), Ciara Flowers (seven), Carley Ellison (seven), Smith (six) and Lauren Amos (five).
