Convention of Southern Baptists to be in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG - Each year the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists (WVCSB) has an annual meeting to discuss the needs of the state and how the convention can serve West Virginia.

This year's meeting will be held in Parkersburg at Fairlawn Baptist Church. The theme is "Together WV for Christ."

The meeting begins Nov. 1 with a pastors' conference and a separate meeting for ministers' wives. These meetings will include breakout sessions dealing with the unique needs of people serving in ministry.

The speakers for the pastors' conference are Tony Crisp, director of church and SBC relationships at Tennessee Temple University and senior pastor of Eastanallee Baptist Church in Riceville, Tenn.; and Ted Traylor, pastor of Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, Fla. Author and columnist Diana Davis will speak with the wives.

The actual meeting begins 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2 and concludes at noon on Saturday, Nov. 3. Greg Varndell, pastor of Fairlawn Baptist Church and president of the WVCSB, will serve as moderator for the meeting.

Guest speakers include Chuck Kelley, president of New Orleans Baptist Seminary; Steve Davis, vice president of the Midwest region for the North American Mission Board; and Jim Drake, church planting catalyst for the southeast region of W.Va.

Nationally known Christian recording artist Marc Ivey will provide special music for the meeting. Joyful Sound of North Greenville University will also perform.
