PARKERSBURG - The River Cities Symphony Orchestra will open its 2012-2013 concert season on Oct. 28 in Parkersburg, followed by concerts in Feburary and June of 2013.
This is the 15th season for the Mid-Ohio Valley-based orchestra and is also the 12th season that Maestro Robert Turizziani has been music director of the orchestra.
The concert season will begin with a "Fall Concert of Music in the Neighborhood" at 3 p.m. Oct. 28 at First Presbyterian Church, 1341 Juliana St., Parkersburg. The program will include Haydn's Symphony No. 89 and Mozart's Symphony No. 29 and Horn Concert No. 2 with horn soloist Marsha Palmer.

The River Cities Symphony Orchestra will begin its new concert season Oct. 28 at First Presyberian Church in Parkersburg. The other concerts in the season will be Feb. 17, 2013, at St. Mary’s Church in Marietta and June 7, 2013, at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta.
Aside from being a busy freelance musician, Palmer is currently principal hornist with the West Virginia Symphony, a position she has held since 1985. She is also a member of the River Cities Symphony, Seneca Chamber Orchestra and the Ohio Valley Symphony.
In addition to her playing responsibilities, Palmer is the conductor of the West Virginia Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble and is the founder and conductor of the Kanawha Valley Horn Ensemble.
For its second performance of the season, the RCSO will present its annual Choral Concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 17, 2013, at Saint Mary's Church at Fourth and Wooster streets in Marietta.
The Marietta College Concert Choir and the Marietta Oratorio Chorus, directed by Daniel Monek, associate professor of music and chair of the Edward E. MacTaggart Music Department at MC, will join the RCSO in the performance of "Four Seasons" by composer Antonio Vivaldi, featuring solo violinist John Harrison. The concert will also include John Rutter's "Requiem" and will feature the choir and chorus.
As a soloist, Harrison has performed the Beethoven, Bartok, Tchaikovsky, Brahms Double, Sibelius and Mendelssohn violin concertos, with orchestras in Boston, Cleveland, Charleston (W.Va.), Casper, Wyoming; and Wichita, Kansas. He has performed internationally, including St. Petersburg, Russia and Verviers, Belgium and has been a featured soloist with The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. His leadership positions include concertmaster of The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, The Vermont Symphony Orchestra and The Wichita Symphony Orchestra.
The RCSO's season will conclude next summer with a Pops Concert featuring Victor Herbert's compositions in "New York City Nights" at 7 p.m. June 7, 2013, at the Lafayette Hotel on Front Street in downtown Marietta.
Due to limited seating, reservations are suggested for this concert and tickets will be sold at the door only if seating is available.
The RCSO will also present three Adventures in Music Education Programs at schools in Williamstown, Marietta and Parkersburg during the current season. All three concerts will be conducted by Turizziani.
