ATHENS - Phil W. Bell, 33, Bean Hollow, Athens, was arrested on cultivation and trafficking charges by the Athens County Sheriff's Office.
The Narcotics Enforcement Team seized approximately 20 pounds of marijuana after the N.E.T. executed a search warrant on a Bean Hollow Athens residence Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Athens County Sheriff Patrick Kelly said Deputy Brad Jeffers received information that a grow operation was operating at the Bean Hollow residence. Jeffers relayed the information to Athens County detective Jim Heater. Heater did a drive-by of the residence, noting the marijuana on the front porch.
A search warrant was obtained and executed Thursday evening and deputies seized the marijuana plants. During the search, chemicals believed to be property of Ohio University were located along with a large number of master keys, also property of Ohio University.
Bell could face charges by Ohio University. Children Services was notified because the marijuana was being cultivated in the presence of an infant child.
Bell was transferred to the South Eastern Ohio Regional Jail.
