Reed Buttrey, 63, of Eureka Community, St. Marys, W.Va., passed away Oct. 3, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 3, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late Carlton Andrew and Virginia Kathryn Booker Buttrey. He was employed by Momentive in Sistersville, W.Va. He was a 1968 graduate of St. Marys High School, attended West Virginia Tech, and was on the Belmont Volunteer Fire Department from 1972 to 1990. He was a member of the St. Marys Presbyterian Church, and was active in both Boy and Girl Scouting with his children. During his scouting years, he received the Order of the Arrow. He had been a member of the Belmont PTA and was active in their variety shows, and he enjoyed all SMHS sporting events. His hobbies included restoring and showing his 1968 Chevrolet Camaro.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Buttrey, son, Jeff Buttrey and Lori Lockhart of Parkersburg, daughter, Leslie Westfall and her husband, Brian of St. Marys; brother, Bernard "Bernie" Buttrey and his wife, Robin of Williamstown, half-sister, Cindy Clements of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., grandson, Reece Christopher Westfall, granddaughter, Peyton Reece Buttrey, step children, Micalyn Miller, a student at Concord University, in Athens, Cierra Miller and Brock Miller, both of St. Marys, step grandchild, Elias Parker, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his birth mother, Wanda Ashley.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, at 4 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Pastor Pamela Shuman officiating. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to either the SMHS Alumni Fund or the Pleasants County Humane Society, both in care of Pleasants Community Foundation, 309 Second Street, St. Marys, WV 26170.
