PARKERSBURG - The Parkersburg Police Department is still investigating an incident that left a 3-year-old child in critical condition.
On Sunday, officers were dispatched to Camden Clark Medical Center on a report of an injured child.
The mother advised the child was hurt while playing in their home.
The names of those involved have not been released.
Detectives from the police department and Child Protective Services are conducting the investigation.
''Obviously the level of injuries warranted an investigation into this particular case,'' said Sgt. Greg Collins, spokesman for the police department. ''We often get requests from hospitals to look at a case, sometimes for obvious reasons, sometimes out of caution.''
The toddler was taken by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown where he remains in critical condition.
Collins said he cannot go into any further details on this particular case.
''Our goal is to find the truth, be it accidental or criminal in nature,'' he said.
