Clark B. Murphy, 81, of Newport, passed away at his residence Sept. 29, 2012.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1931, in Newport, a son of the late George W. and Mary Lois Hoyt Murphy.
He was a graduate of Newport High School class of 1949, was a U.S. Navy Veteran from 1950-1954 and a member of Newport Baptist Church for 70 years, where he served as the church pianist.
Clark graduated Cum Laude from Ohio University in 1958. He taught English and history at Lawrence High School for three years, Woodsfield High School from 1961 to 1963, Fort Frye High School from 1963-1973 and retired from Marietta High School after 11 years in 1984. While teaching at Fort Frye, he earned his Master's Degree from WVU. He directed many class plays during his years teaching.
Clark lived on the banks of the Ohio River most of his life. He loved the Ohio River and enjoyed music, gardening and spending time outdoors. He cared for several pets throughout his life and leaves behind his beloved dog, Duke.
He is survived by a brother, Bernard (Judy) Murphy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Betty Anderson, William Murphy, George Murphy, Emma Holland, Charles Murphy, Mark Murphy, Clarinda Smitley and May Lou Murphy; three nieces, Sandra Murphy, Kathy Murphy Fairbanks and Linda Anderson; and one nephew, Thomas Murphy.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Newport Cemetery with Doug Brown officiating and military rites at the grave.
Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va., is in charge of the arrangements.
