Mrs. Shirla A. Varlichi, 79, of Palestine, passed away Sept. 27, 2012, at her residence, after an extended illness.
She was a member of Big Island Run United Methodist Church, a homemaker, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the first civilian to receive a penicillin shot that saved her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Varlichi; sister, Janet Koepfinger; brothers, Donald Glatz and Ronald (Harriet) Lewis; and great-grandchild, Lanie Norman.
Shirla is survived by three sons, Douglas (Elisabeth) of Mainz, Germany, and Daniel (Kim) and David of Pleasant Garden, N.C.; sisters, Frankie Glatz of Elizabeth and Colleen Cale (Rick) of Elizabeth; seven grandchildren, Alex, Michaelle, Sara, Ella, Ida, Brandi and Brad; and four great-grandchildren, Sage, Jade, Emily and Braiden.
A tribute to Shirla's life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bush Kimes Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Pastor Dean Ash officiating. Interment will follow in Lewis-Roberts Cemetery, Cisco, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services Thursday.
