Robert (Bob) Lamance Alford

Robert (Bob) Lamance Alford, 88, of Parkersburg, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 17, 2012, at Cedar Grove Personal Care Home in Parkersburg.

He was born Aug. 29, 1924 in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Robert V. and Louisa Alford. He spent most of his childhood growing up in Newton, Miss. Robert graduated from college with a degree in accounting. He worked in the accounting department at Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, W.Va. when the plant first opened in the early 1950s, and then later at Chem Gas until his retirement in 1993. He loved Gospel singing and was a member of several different Gospel Quartets throughout his lifetime. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna. He also was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Boxer during World War II.

He is survived by his daughter, Lynda Goosman (Keith) of Charlotte, N.C.; one step-daughter, Barbara Murray (Charles A.) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one step-son, Edgar Snyder (Margaret) of Fairfield, Ohio; one grandson, Dr. William Kent Harris (Heather) of Roanoke, Va.; one granddaughter, Cortney Harris of Parkersburg; four step-grandsons, Scott Snyder (Noy), Chris Snyder (Rhonda), Todd Burner (Amy) and Shawn Burner (Mary Ellen); one great-granddaughter, Rhiannon Harris of Parkersburg; 10 step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Donaldline Bush Alford in 1984; his second wife, Glenna Snyder Alford in 2011; one brother, James; and one sister, Doris.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Jim Mike Ward officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
