Parkersburg Catholic blanks Calhoun, 63-0

PARKERSBURG - Seven different players scored touchdowns for Parkersburg Catholic Saturday night as the Crusaders overwhelmed visiting Calhoun County 63-0 at Stadium Field.

Senior Charles Schriner tallied three TDs while rolling up 174 yards rushing on 18 carries and his two younger brothers, Ryan and Neal, also notched touchdowns in the impressive win.

Catholic, now 2-2, ran roughshod over the Reds Devils, scoring on their first three possessions of the game as Calhoun went 3-and-out every time. PCHS's running game, paced by Charles Schriner and Mitch Davis (11 for 104 with a TD), shredded the Calhoun defense with 59 rushes for 444 yards.

Davis ran in from 21 yards out just 2:03 into the game, capping a quick five-play, 82-yard drive. Charles Schriner added a 2-yard run to paydirt at 5:19 of the first quarter, and Payton Sturm connected with Nick Roedersheimer on an 11-yard scoring strike at 11:14 of the second stanza.

Neal Schriner's fumble recovery on the ensuing kickoff at the Calhoun 38 set up Catholic's next TD, a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Sturm at 7:21 of the second to up the score to 28-0. And Charles Schriner's 1-yard run over the left side for a touchdown with 15.9 seconds left made it 35-0 at the half.

On the second play of the second half, Neal Schriner intercepted and took it back 31 yards for a TD.

The Red Devils, now also 2-2, finally picked up a first down at 9:37 of the third quarter on a 25-yard pass from QB Logan Moore to Joe Richards in reaching the Catholic 34. But Roedersheimer knocked down a fourth-down pass in the end zone at 8:33 to quell the threat.

A 52-yard scamper by Charles Schriner to the Calhoun 7 set up his 2-yard TD run at 4:53 for a 49-0 lead after three quarters.

Two more TDs in the fourth quarter wrapped up the one-sided win for the Crusaders, who play at Wirt County Friday night. Jake Boice pounded his way a yard into the end zone at 11:19 and Ryan Schriner ran in from 3 yards out with 5:19 to play.

In all, Catholic led by whopping margins in first downs, 22-2, and total yardage, 486-67.

Calhoun also plays next Friday, hosting Tyer Consolidated at 7:30 p.m.
