Robert Ray Bonar

Robert Ray Bonar, 83, of Ravenswood, W.Va., passed away Sept. 13, 2012, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, W.Va.

He was born Oct. 29, 1928 at Murraysville, W.Va., a son of the late Nelson Edward Bonar and Ada Mae Polk Bonar.

He was born on a large dairy farm in Murraysville, W.Va. He graduated with the class of '48 from Ravenswood High School. He entered the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. After leaving the service, he entered Marshall College on a football scholarship. He was employed as a railroad worker, was a member of the Teamsters Union, and later retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood as a millwright. He faithfully attended sporting events at Ravenswood High School. He was a lifetime member of Coleman Chapel Church, and also a member of Ravenswood VFW Post 6669. He loved singing.

He is survived by daughters: Joyce Hill and husband Randy M. Hill, Evans, W.Va., and Sharon Pease, Millwood, W.Va.; sons: Jim Bonar and wife Drema, and Don Bonar, all of Fairplain, W.Va.; grandchildren: Amy Jo Whited, Brieanna K. Hill, Jacob S. Bonar, Katrina D. Hill, Robert John Pease, Alexander B. Hill, and Jacob Lucas; brothers: William "Bill" Bonar, Parkersburg, Jack Bonar, Jackson, Miss., and Dr. Daniel "Don" Bonar and wife Marty, Granville, Ohio; brother-in-law: William "Bus" Davis, Vienna, W.Va.; many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Ruth Ann Sullivan Bonar; brother, Nelson Edward Bonar; sister, Dorothy Davis, and granddaughter, Ashly May Bonar.

Services will be held at Roush Funeral Home, Monday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m. with Rev. John Frum officiating. Burial will be in the Ravenswood Cemetery, Ravenswood, with graveside military rites provided by Ravenswood VFW Post 6669.

Friends may visit the family at Roush Funeral Home on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 2-4 p.m.
