Bobby P. Ellison, 83, formerly of Parkersburg, passed away Sept. 11, 2012, at the Sumter Health and Rehab, Sumter, S.C.
Mr. Ellison was born April 22, 1929 near Charleston, a son of the late Lloyd and Ethel Ramey Ellison. He attended Marshall University and graduated from Purdue University in 1956 with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and a dedicated member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church.
He had served 33 years in the U.S. Air Force, 130th Airlift Wing of WV Air National Guard, retiring as lieutenant colonel, where he was commander of aircraft maintenance. He had been an electrical engineer and plant manager with Kaiser Aluminum and retired as plant manager of Ormet.
He is survived by a daughter, Lynn (David) Smutz of Sumter, S.C.; a son, Robert (Michelle) Ellison of Matthews, N.C., and five grandchildren, Geoffrey Gill, Spencer Gill, Kennedy Ellison, Claire Ellison and Lindsey Smutz.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Rena Black Ellison, in 1996.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Tom McDowell officiating. Military graveside services will follow at the Ravenswood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at the Vaughan Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.
