ST. MARYS - An employee at the Pleasants County Boys and Girls Club has been arrested on sex charges.

Jesse Gutierrez, the teen outreach and sports coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club of Pleasants County, was arrested by the Pleasants County Sheriff's Department, charged with two counts of sex abuse.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Pleasants County Magistrate Court by Pleasants County Sheriff's Deputy J.S. Rhodes, the 38-year-old Gutierrez is charged with sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust and sexual assault in the third degree.

He faces up to 25 years in prison and $15,000 in fines.

The complaint alleges an investigation revealed Gutierrez engaged in sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old minor during the summer of 2010.

"The victim and the defendant both advised that the crime occurred here in Pleasants County between August and September 2010," the complaint states.

The complaint states Gutierrez engaged the minor, who through his employment was under his "care, custody and control at the time the intercourse took place."

Mike Kersteter, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Pleasants County, declined immediate comment, stating the club would issue a statement.

Kersteter would not say how long Gutierrez had been employed by the club.

"He's not working here," he said.

Jay Gerber was appointed Gutierrez' attorney. A message left for Gerber was not returned.

Gutierrez' preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 26 at 10:30 a.m. in magistrate court.
