Mattie C. Latham, 73, of Belpre, passed away on Sept. 4, 2012, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
She was born Sept. 10, 1938 in Greensboro, Ala., a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Cabbil. Mattie was employed by Schott Scientific for many years until she retired. Her favorite thing to do was to serve her Lord to the fullest. She never met a stranger; you never saw anything but a smile on her face. She also picked up the nickname "The Road Runner" because after retiring, her and her sister, Bessie, always stayed on the go. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Johnny L. and Charles, both of Parkersburg; five daughters, Wazetta (Jay), Michelle (Allen), Victoria (Frank), Cynthia and Jennifer; seven brothers, Robert (Cathrine), Willie (Mary), Eddie (Rose), Larry (Debra), George, Alex (Ann) and Promis (Denita); and five sisters, Willie B., Bessie, Carrie, Lula and Annie (Orlando); 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Will Latham; one son, Sgt. Calvin Lee Latham; and two nephews, Robert Anthony Cabbil and William Cordell Taylor.
The funeral service will be Saturday at Sunrise Baptist Church, 716 Hill St., Parkersburg, W.Va., at 1 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown. Visitation will be held Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
