Charles C. Woodford, 84, of Glenville, W.Va., passed away quietly Monday evening, Sept. 3, 2012, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, following a brief illness.
Charles was born March 8, 1928, in Tanner, W.Va., to the late Jesse and Alice Woodford. He joined the Army after completing his high school education and served in Japan with the occupational forces at the end of World War II. After leaving the Army, he moved to Ohio and worked at the Ford Motor Forging plant in Canton, Ohio for 36 years. After retiring, Charles moved back to West Virginia, where he met and married Ina Kirkpatrick of Glenville on Dec. 25, 1987.
Along with being a loving husband and father, Charles was very active in the community being a life member of both the VFW and Knights of Pythias. He was also a member of the American Legion, Odd Fellows, Dramatic Order Knights of Khorassan, Cedar Creek Satellite Club, Tanner Satellite Club and was active at the Gilmer County Senior Center. He attended Stewart's Creek Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Claude and Boyd; and son, Charles. He is survived by his wife, Ina; brother, Robert; son, Bob Greenlief; daughter, Mona McCaulley; daughter, Debbie Nice; son, Terry Barr; daughter, Alice Crawford (Bob); daughter, Cathy; sons, Scott, Todd (Kit) and Marc; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville with Pastor William Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodford Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
