Taking responsibility not easy

September 2, 2012
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

If rape victims are not permitted to choose abortion, then the government needs to assume responsibility for support of the child to adulthood. We require a father to provide support for their child if separated or divorced. The government is assuming the responsibility for the child by not permitting the mother to have a choice. If an abortion is not permitted for a rape victim then child support needs to be provided until adulthood.

The argument that churches, welfare assistance and other private assistance will assume the role is not assuming responsibility. It is passing it on.

It is easy to take a moral position but not as easy to assume responsibility for the resulting outcomes.
