CALDWELL - Buckeye Trail took advantage of four Caldwell turnovers and held the hosts to just 82 total yards here Thursday night as the Warriors improved to 1-1 with a 29-7 road victory.
Caldwell, now 0-2 with a road trip set for next Friday at Harrison Central, led 7-0 with 9:24 left in the first quarter after John Carpenter scored from 3 yards out and Alexi Cubas kicked the extra point.
However, it was all Buckeye Trail after that. Lane Starr's 2-yard TD run and Seth Doudna's conversion run gave the visitors an 8-7 cushion at halftime.
Doudna then hauled in TD passes of 10 and 22 yards from Morgan Dougherty and BTHS led 22-7 heading to the fourth period after Jeffrey Simmons ran in for two on the second score. Simmons added a 1-yard plunge at 11:34 of the fourth quarter and Ian Wildes' successful extra point provided for the final margin of victory.
Bricker Lori led the Redskins, who had just 3 yards passing, with 53 rushing yards on seven attempts. Kale Rayner, Kameron Rayner and Austin Cobb, who joined Justin Hardesty in getting a fumble recovery.
