Michael Louis Backus, 64, of Lubeck, died Aug. 18, 2012, at his residence.
He was born March 1, 1948, in Wood County, a son of the late Norton Louis and Virginia Plate Backus.
He retired from CSX Railroad as a conductor after 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Marine veteran serving in the Vietnam War and later served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Ann Headley Backus; three daughters, Michele (Dave) Fusek of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Beverly (Zane) Logston of Parkersburg and Tammy Backus of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren, Brooke, Tommy, Brandon, Ethan, Anna, Emily and Shenae; great-grandson, Tanner; sister, Markey L. Powell of Belpre; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Mark Houser officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with military rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
