Helen G. Daugherty

Helen G. Daugherty, 91, of The Willows of Parkersburg, passed away on Aug. 11, 2012.

She was born at Meadville, W.Va. (Tyler County), a daughter of the late Clyde and Della Gorrell.

Helen graduated from Tyler County High School in Middlebourne, W.Va., and Mountain State Business College. She retired from Magnet Bank. A member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Upper Room Class, Rebecca Circle, United Methodist Women and the Quilting Group. She also volunteered with the Friends of Blennerhassett.

Above all, Helen loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She especially enjoyed family get-togethers, holidays, birthdays and cheering for the WVU Mountaineers. Helen was an incredible woman who greatly blessed the lives of all she knew.

Surviving are: a daughter, Karen S. Merrill and husband, Steven Merrill, of Marietta, Ohio; a son, Ted A. Daugherty and wife, Linda Daugherty, of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Jason Merrill and Jon Higgins, Michelle Gillespie and husband, Joe, Michael Merrill and wife, Stacey, Clifton Daugherty and wife, Holly, of Kentucky and Megan Van Pelt and husband, Reid, of Kentucky; and four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn McClead, Abigayle Merrill, Kellen Daugherty and Josie Gillespie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Daugherty in 1998; one sister, Evelyn Wagner; three brothers, Russell, John and Paul; and great-grandson, Nikola Gillespie.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Monday prior to the service.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the Willows Activity Center, 723 Summers St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.
