David T "Sonny" Gorrell, Jr. died on Tuesday July 31, 2012, at his home after a long battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Washington, W.Va. on Jan. 24, 1937, to the late David T. Sr. and Virginia Gilchrist Gorrell.
Sonny was a member of the Lubeck United Methodist Church. He graduated from PHS with the class of 1954. He then entered the United States Air Force in January 1955. He was honorably discharged in January 1959. After returning home, he worked at Gorrell Electric until the death of his father in 1974. He was a member of IBEW 968 and worked as an electrician. He married Patti Lucille Page in August 1957.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patti, May 1987 and his great-grandson, Julian D. Spencer, August 2011.
He is survived by his current wife, Mary Jane (Janie) Gorrell whom he married in September 1989; son Douglas K. Gorrell (Tammie Lockhart) of Washington, W.Va.; Donna Katherine Ferguson of Belpre, Ohio; Melissa Page Milliron (Eric) of Chester, Ohio; Beth Wigal of Belpre, Ohio and Kelli Lewis (Derek Henrie) of Williamstown, W.Va.; grandchildren: Joshua David (Erica) of Camden, Del.; Jordan O'Dell (Megan) and their children Emma, Jordan Jr., and Cooper of Cutler, Ohio, Adam Michael of Washington, W.Va.; Andrew Reynolds of Washington, W.Va.; Brittany Patricia Ferguson of Akron, Ohio; Courtney Danielle Ferguson of Cincinnati, Ohio; Erica Paige and Jacob Alan Milliron of Chester, Ohio; Chris Wigal (Nikki) and their children Ethan and Isaac of Belpre; Gary Verling (Amanda) and their child Trey of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; Larissa Cothern (Joshua) and their child Reagan of Baltimore, Md.; sister: Bonnie Ann Carlton Farra of Lubeck, several cousins and his loving Shih Tzu Sadie.
A memorial service will be held on Aug. 11 at Lubeck United Methodist Church at 1 p.m.
