Despite the fact there is no voter fraud, the Republicans continue to pass laws that make it more difficult for people to vote. Many of us have the required ID but a lot of people do not and it is especially difficult for the elderly and poor who have been voting for years and whose voter registration cards are no longer valid. Florida is in the process of purging their voter records so it is very possible a number of people will go to vote only to find they have been dropped from the voter rolls.
The Supreme Court has ruled corporations are like individuals who have "freedom of speech" and can therefore contribute millions of dollars to political campaigns. I'm sure when they help a congressman or president get elected, they expect to be rewarded with favorable legislation. That is why we still don't have banking regulation in place to oversee the banks that caused our economic collapse a few years ago and some of our financial institutions continue to defraud the public.
And then there are the "social welfare" organizations that don't have to disclose the names of their contributors as they run political attack ads. These organizations have nothing to do with social welfare and have everything to do with anonymously putting people into office who will legislate in their favor.
When politicians legislate for the benefit of corporations and the wealthy and to the detriment of the rest of us and are successful in keeping some segments of our population from voting, our Democracy itself is threatened.
