Mary Virginia Brammer, 90, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Wesley Gardens in Rochester, N.Y.
Born July 6, 1922, in St. Marys, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Robert Arnold and Lennis Hutchison Brown. Mary married Earl Jacob Brammer on Nov. 20, 1943. They resided first at Willow Island and then in St. Marys. After raising eight children, Mary enjoyed antiquing with her husband. The winters were spent collecting and the summers were filled with visits to area flea markets. She volunteered for the March of Dimes for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Her hobbies included playing checkers, canasta, bingo and planning that next trip. Her travels took her coast-to-coast in America and to many foreign countries. She was known as "Grandma" to generations of neighborhood children and remembered for those special candy treats. Due to declining health, Mary moved to Rochester, N.Y., where she could be closer to her children.
She is survived by her children, Connie (Dennis) Greene of Newport, R.I., Richard Brammer of Rochester, N.Y., Regina (Donald) Macher of Rochester, N.Y., Kathy (Rick) Sherk of Cary, N.C., Martha (Tod) Conway of Berea, Ohio, Jody (Karen) Brammer of Worcester, Mass. and Elizabeth (Henry) Bibb of Cary, N.C.; her 11 grandchildren, Cynthia, BJ (a very loyal and dedicated grandson, who was more like a son), Adam, Courtney, Jacob, Matthew, Donald, Mason, Maggie, Matthew and Lydia; and 11 great-grandchildren, Dustin, Kaylee, Gwen, Madison, Ian, Zachery, Garrett, Aiden, her namesake Mary, Cameron and Veda; a sister, Jeannine Oldfield of St. Marys; her sister-in-law, Hazel Brown of Burbank, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins; and friend and caregiver, Alma Barnard.
