Charles William Cross Sr., 75, of Waverly, died July 22, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 11, 1936, in Waverly, a son of the late Clarence Fredrick and Josephine (Linger) Cross. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. He was a past Master of the Cairo Masonic Lodge #114 and was a 32nd degree Mason. He belonged to several Masonic organizations. He worked at F.M.C. and American Cyanamid "Cytec". He was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed watching birds and wild animals.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Fleming Cross, who he married June 7, 1959; two sons, Charles W. Cross Jr. "Chuck" and wife Lynn of St. Marys and Randall Scott Cross "Randy" and wife Athena of Waverly; four grandchildren, Teighlor Dean Cross of Waverly and Levi, Kari and Sara Cross of Parkersburg; two sisters, Barbara Cross and Emma Hanshaw; brother, Fred Cross; special friends, Nathan and Gunner Luzader and Mary Elisabeth and Wesley "Chipmunk" Kelly; several nieces and nephews; and a special nephew, Doug Fleming and wife Laura of Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Mackey.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the Leavitt Funeral Home Parkersburg, with Rev. Marty Cowgar and Rev. Jim Mike Ward officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery North with Masonic rites provided by Cairo Masonic Lodge #114 and military rites provided by American Legion Post #15. Visitation will be today from 2-8 p.m.
