Matthew Scott Barker, 17, of Paden City, W.Va., died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Ruby Memorial Hospital as the result of an automobile accident.
Matt was born Sept. 1, 1994 in New Martinsville, W.Va., son of Bradley and Angela Goff Barker.
He was a senior at Paden City High School, loved weight lifting and on Saturday, July 7, 2012 he set five world records in the U.S.P.F. weight lifting competition; he was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved sports especially football and baseball.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Nathan Goff.
Surviving in addition to his parents are brother, Adam (Erica) Barker of Shaw Air Force Base, S.C.; two sisters, Meagan and Kayla Barker of Paden City; maternal grandmother, Susanna Owens; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Deloris Barker and Judy Barker and Jim Painter; aunts and uncles, Kenneth (Tammy) Barker, Jennifer (Michael) Southerly and Marshall Owens and several cousins and friends.
Friends received 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Homes in Paden City. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19 at the First Baptist Church in Paden City, with Pastor Jonathan Mast officiating.
Interment in Greenwood Cemetery in Sistersville, W.Va.
