Compassionate and caring. Those were the first two words that came to mind today upon observing two Humane Society of Parkersburg workers who arrived at our office today to rescue a timid German Shepherd, suffering from heat exhaustion. Our staff observed the full size Shepherd somewhat disoriented and wandering in our building's front yard, and placed water out for her. Appearing weak, after just a few sips, she laid down against our building.
As we wondered what to do next, her condition demanded we do something. Upon contacting the Humane Society of Parkersburg and explaining the animal's plight to Maryann Hollis, Director, she quickly said they would make the animal a priority to collect. True to her word, within 15 minutes, a truck with two representatives arrived for the dog. I watched their concerned and gentle approach to the obviously frightened animal. When the animal got up and feebly attempted to walk away, their calm manner prevailed and they placed a leash on her, and carefully helped her into their truck. A short while later, Maryann advised me that the dog's owner had been found!
What a great ending to this concern and hats off to the Humane Society of Parkersburg for the outstanding services provided for this animal and its owner. We deeply appreciate the services of our local humane society.
